I asked this question to Mayor Walker as a follow-up to this topic: City Councilor Dr. Wes Bellamy would like to rebrand Preston Avenue because its namesake, Thomas Lewis Preston, was an adjunct general in the Confederate Army. Thomas Lewis Preston also owned slaves.

Many people in Central Virginia believe that if we start renaming streets, parks and statues in CVille, then it could eventually lead to the removal of Thomas Jefferson from UVA. It’s the proverbial “Pandora’s Box.”
