Be careful when you’re around me, you might get kissed to death! I can’t wait to give body-wags and face-licks to everyone I meet. When I first arrived here at CFC I was scared and unsure of myself. I wanted to love everyone, but sometimes I got scared. Now that I have my confidence back, I’m a bouncy and happy girl whose beautiful outside matches her inside.
My fur is actually plusher than it appears in the photos. I’m squeezable, soft and ready for love! I’m good around other dogs, although it’s still a mystery how I feel about cats and kids. It would make me so happy if you’d come to visit me. It’s like visiting with a live Teddy Bear!

After the death of my person and losing the only home I had ever known I was grief stricken. Upon arriving at CFC I was very fearful; there were so many new sights and smells but everyone was very loving and gentle with me. They were impressed that, even as frightened as I was, I never acted out or was aggressive in any way toward man or beast. That’s me alright, a very gentle, demure, and soft natured girl. I avoid being picked up but don’t let that fool you into thinking that I don’t like affection. I do, but I prefer it on my terms. I’ll gladly trade you some soft head bumps for chinny scratches and gentle caresses down my back. My fur is plush and thick and I’ve heard it said that it’s difficult to resist running your fingers through it. And why should you resist? Such bonding is good for both of us I think. Other kitties tend to intimidate me and frankly I don’t see the need for feline companionship. My friends here think that I have the makings of a devoted and loyal companion, and I would love to assume that role once again. Why don’t you stop by the Scratching Post kitchen, say hello, and let me audition for the part?

Jean is a snuggly girl who loves being with her people. Once upon a time, she had a family and a home and she was very loved. When her elderly caretakers started having health issues and became wheelchair bound, well, they did the right thing for Jean and wished for her to have a new home where she could share her youthful outlook on life and run and play and have fun! Today, Jean is a happy, vibrant lady who loves people. Jean loves rolling over on her back in the hopes of eking out some belly rubs from her new human friends and maybe catching some sunny rays to warm her up. Inside, she’s perfectly content to simply stretch out on the sofa but she also loves acting as your shadow as she follows you around to get in on the all the action. Already crate and house trained, Jean is a lovely leash walker and is happy to trot back into her house when summoned especially if it involves a fresh Benebone or other tasty snack! With the temps dropping, Jean will tell you she is the BEST doggy to curl up into YOUR bed to keep your feet or legs warm. She’s a wonderful “draper” in this manner and is just darn appealing! Jean is a little “Love Machine” and we think she’s just divine!

I’m one of the black kitten cats, a crew of ebony sweethearts known as the “Inky Imps” for our playful, romping ways. When you enter our room I’ll be one of the first to dash to greet you. I’ll likely vault into your lap like a little heat seeking missile, where I’ll settle in for a good cuddle. Stroke my sleek ebony fur and you’ll be rewarded with heartfelt looks of thanks and a steady and soothing purr. Folks say they love the way I just melt against them as they caress me. I’m one happy lover boy when I have someone to pet me and tell me I’m a fine fellow. Having known so much love here at CFC I guess it’s not a shock that I’m such a benevolent and kindly guy, but still people marvel at what an affectionate and warm-hearted kitty I am. Did you know that very often black dogs and cats are never adopted? That’s insane! We are deprived of caring homes and you of devoted and loving companions. Well, you can do your part to remedy that grim reality by taking me home with you, and maybe one of my siblings or cousins too? A guy can dream, can’t he? Come visit and at the very least I guarantee you the joy of being engulfed by my friendly feline family. You’ll wish that you had more hands with which to pet us all.

Living life on the fringe! I just know my life has a taken a huge turn and a very good one at that. Recently pulled from a high kill shelter, folks are surmising that I grew up with limited or no stability and as a very young girl did not get much guidance from my person. As a result, some might say I am a bit of a “project dog” in that I will need someone who is pet savvy and very calm and patient. I can tell you that I’m smart as a whip and I really want to reach out and leave the sidelines and say “hi.” Perhaps a bit shy when we first meet, lots of folks will focus on my looks and say I have THE most expressive face and incredibly awesome ears. I also hear my jacket reminds folks of a squirrel!! I’m really not the type of girl to kiss on a first date but promise that once you let me give you the once over, I’ll gladly let you take me out for a stroll. If you have other dogs in your home, that too would be mighty fine as I can learn so much from them and they give me such comfort. I’m really ready to leave the “fringe” lifestyle and so hope that soon I can find my new person.

Yep, I’ve heard the F bomb directed at me. That’s right, “Fat!” Well, I’ll admit to sturdy or even hefty, but “Fat?” Really! There are those who think that my size makes me even more huggable. It’s true that I could stand to lose a pound or 3, but basically I’m just a large framed strapping boy who wouldn’t be nearly as handsome if I was a thin mint. I could throw my weight around, but I’m a peaceful fellow who has no issues with fellow felines. My heart is kind and I delight in receiving affection from people. Talk about filling up a lap, I can and will do that for sure. With my soft gray Siamese colored fur and very gentle ways I seem to attract my share of attention, which is wonderful since I revel in petting sessions and being brushed. I’ve been called an all around (hope that’s not a dig at my girth) wonderful boy. One look at this cherubic face and folks tend to fall in love. Even if your home and heart have just a small missing piece I’m confident that I can SQUEEZZZE right in there. Please come and spend some time with possibly your new best friend.

I’m at my best surrounded by toys and more toys and yes, a human by my side. Howdy, folks. It’s me Owen. I love to play. I love my purple stuffy!!! I also like to chase tennis balls. Folks have commented on how I can seemingly self entertain for long periods of time if given just a few simple toys. I will carry and throw toys around and then roll on my back in great delight. Still can’t believe the good fortune I have come upon in winding up at CFC! I’ve never met a stranger and I’m told I’m graced with a super sweet disposition typical of many hounds. I’m a good match should you already have a dog in stock but cats look just like small little toys to me so they are not a good choice for me! LOL. I’ll admit, I get very excited when I see someone heading toward my pen with a leash. I get so excited it’s hard for me to focus on what I’m told. But I sure am enthusiastic with my affection! I’m not so happy when it’s time to go back inside the pen, though. Sometimes I have to be lured inside because I am so afraid I’ll be left alone again. I would love to be adopted by someone who could be patient with me until I gain some confidence and feel secure once more.

Since I’m writing this on July 4th you may think it strange that this is my Declaration of Dependence. You see, I’ve lived the so called free and unfettered life and it wasn’t so great. What I so desire now is a caring guardian who I can always depend on for a comfy house, nutritious food, and last but not least, unlimited love and soft caresses. I wasn’t fortunate enough to be born in a home surrounded by loving people so I tend to be shy and reticent with new acquaintances. If you gaze though into my big, sweet, soulful eyes you, as a knowledgeable cat person, will see that there is not a mean bone in me. I’m as gentle as a lamb and enjoy receiving affection once I know that I am safe with you. Having reached a relaxed state, perhaps in a cat tree or on the patio that I enjoy here, I adore belly rubs. What greater sign of trust and affection than the offer of a soft and furry belly? I get along famously with other cats and my volunteer friend says that I am just a very fine gentleman cat who will flourish with a patient and doting person.
9. Birdie

Hi, it’s me Birdie! I’m a gorgeous, eager young hound who needs room to run. I’m a real goofball, and I’m sure to keep you laughing. I’m very friendly and energetic. The folks in South Carolina called me the class clown! I have the looks and the moves, and I made them all smile all the time. I’ve never met a stranger, and I’m your choice if you’re in the market for an energetic, affectionate companion. Hound lovers will surely fall for me.
As far as living in a home, I am wonderful with kids and other dogs. I love being part of an active family! If you have a friendly resident dog looking for a friend to romp with, I’m your girl. But it’s best if it’s a dog who shares my energy level and love of play. I have to confess though that I like to chase cats. So far, I’m not quite sure what to do when I catch them, but I think a feline-free home would be safest for me.
Note: On the last leg of my journey to my safe spot at CFC, my driver allowed me the privilege of joining her as co-pilot in her car. I had such fun peeping around looking like a periscope scanning the horizon. Polite and well mannered in the car, my new found friend told me I was a love bug, super friendly and a real hoot to hang out with! Now that I have spent some time at the Sanctuary, I have been invited to go on subsequent car rides and I have SUCH fun! Once I hop in your car, it will be tough to get me to leave your car… just saying!
Volunteer Update January 2018: Birdie is a multi-layered lady! There is serious Birdie who presents herself in a calm, nicely mannered way when there are no treats in sight and then when treats are added to the equation, she literally busts out in great animated jumps, spins and twirling tricks. Boy, did she make me laugh! Never jumping on me, she literally puts on this incredible show of sheer joy at the sight of super snacks. In looking at her photo gallery, perhaps you can tell which photos involved snacks and which did not! Birdie is a super smart and attentive young lady. She knows “sit,” “down” and is working on “come.” Following our photo session, she nicely walked right by my side as I led her back to her pen. I can’t wait to spend more time with her to discover all of the other layers beneath that sweet, smiling hound face!

You know, I’ve learned that girls can be apprentices too and my goal is to enter apprenticeship to become a feline faithful friend and confidant. Call it the Guild of the Fantastic Felines. I had a rough start in life but this demure girl has all the tools for success. I’m kind, gentle, and affectionate. I just need someone to teach me to trust more fully and I want to learn all the finer points of being a best buddy. I may play hard to get initially but once I’m ensconced in a comfortable spot some welcomed pets and caresses will have me rolling around and virtually standing on my head with joy. I dress for success too with a pert pink nose, petite frame, and gorgeous white and black markings in my baby soft fur. I get along well with all my roomies. I have been called good of heart and gentle of soul and I guess that pretty much sums me up. Please come visit your kitty apprentice.

Believe it or not, Ripley is here! This incredibly handsome, sleek silver grey fellow is doggy perfection! If we could grade him, he would earn A’s across the board. Found as a stray, Ripley luckily wound up in a foster home prior to his arrival here so we know first hand how awesome he is in a home setting. Ripley is a fantastic choice for a family who already has dogs of all sizes and his temperament and energy level is appropriate for kids of all ages. He is very respectful, patient and easy going and has the best disposition. Inside his foster home, Ripley would oftentimes curl up and make himself comfortable on piles of freshly dried laundry or look for some close snuggle time with his human. He enjoys being near his humans but is also happy to chill on his own and nicely entertain himself with toys. Outside, he loves to run and play with other dogs and sunbathing is also a favorite pastime. Although a larger dog tipping the scales at 60lbs, Ripley is easy to manage and made a very fast assimilation into his temporary foster home. Smart, loving and very people orientated, Ripley would thrive in a home where he can share his pet skills and contribute to the family unit. We are smitten with Ripley and know you will be as well.
