Two fun peas in a pod. Meet siblings Janie and Juno who are in the hunt to make YOUR day! This bubbly, friendly pair have such a great time together that it’s almost criminal. Both skilled leash walkers and givers of darting kisses, Juno and Janie are playful, affectionate, wiggly ladies looking for their first full time pet jobs. Lovely and eager to interact with other dogs, these ladies would love to go home together but are open to setting up shop in different homes and likely would benefit and would enjoy sharing their new lives with other dogs.

Yep, I’ve heard the F bomb directed at me. That’s right, “Fat!” Well, I’ll admit to sturdy or even hefty, but “Fat?” Really! There are those who think that my size makes me even more huggable. It’s true that I could stand to lose a pound or 3, but basically I’m just a large framed strapping boy who wouldn’t be nearly as handsome if I was a thin mint. I could throw my weight around, but I’m a peaceful fellow who has no issues with fellow felines. My heart is kind and I delight in receiving affection from people. Talk about filling up a lap, I can and will do that for sure. With my soft gray Siamese colored fur and very gentle ways I seem to attract my share of attention, which is wonderful since I revel in petting sessions and being brushed. I’ve been called an all around (hope that’s not a dig at my girth) wonderful boy. One look at this cherubic face and folks tend to fall in love. Even if your home and heart have just a small missing piece I’m confident that I can SQUEEZZZE right in there. Please come and spend some time with possibly your new best friend.
4. Birdie

Hi, it’s me, Birdie! I’m a gorgeous, eager young hound who needs room to run. I’m a real goofball, and I’m sure to keep you laughing. I’m very friendly and energetic. The folks in South Carolina called me the class clown! I have the looks and the moves, and I made them all smile all the time. I’ve never met a stranger, and I’m your choice if you’re in the market for an energetic, affectionate companion. Hound lovers will surely fall for me.
As far as living in a home, I am wonderful with kids and other dogs. I love being part of an active family! If you have a friendly resident dog looking for a friend to romp with, I’m your girl. But it’s best if it’s a dog who shares my energy level and love of play. I have to confess though that I like to chase cats. So far, I’m not quite sure what to do when I catch them, but I think a feline-free home would be safest for me.
Note: On the last leg of my journey to my safe spot at CFC, my driver allowed me the privilege of joining her as co-pilot in her car. I had such fun peeping around looking like a periscope scanning the horizon. Polite and well mannered in the car, my newfound friend told me I was a love bug, super friendly and a real hoot to hang out with! Now that I have spent some time at the Sanctuary, I have been invited to go on subsequent car rides and I have SUCH fun! Once I hop in your car, it will be tough to get me to leave your car… just saying!
Volunteer Update January 2018: Birdie is a multi-layered lady! There is serious Birdie who presents herself in a calm, nicely mannered way when there are no treats in sight and then when treats are added to the equation, she literally busts out in great animated jumps, spins and twirling tricks. Boy, did she make me laugh! Never jumping on me, she literally puts on this incredible show of sheer joy at the sight of super snacks. In looking at her photo gallery, perhaps you can tell which photos involved snacks and which did not! Birdie is a super smart and attentive young lady. She knows “sit,” “down” and is working on “come.” Following our photo session, she nicely walked right by my side as I led her back to her pen. I can’t wait to spend more time with her to discover all of the other layers beneath that sweet, smiling hound face!

There may be sweeter and more sociable kitties than me but those who have come to know me here say that they haven’t met them yet. As soon as someone approaches and says hello to me, I positively light up, my big luminous eyes sparkling with good cheer, and I’m just as likely as not to offer up a big old belly for some pets. I not only tolerate belly rubs, something most cats don’t relish, I absolutely insist on them. I’m known as a generous giver of enthusiastic head bumps accompanied by a deep and resonant purr. Lest you think that my missing leg handicaps me in any way, you should see me sprint to the sound of a food dish being prepared. It’s a three legged race that I win every time. Folks say that I make the coziest cuddle buddy going and that I’m just plain huggable. I do like to be held close and will press against you as I fill your lap. I get along well enough with most other felines but there are a few of my fellow residents with whom I don’t want to share my personal space. In truth I would love to be an only child but I could share a home with another gentle kitty. I would adore your coming to visit, but be prepared to fall in love with a big, kind-hearted guy. Please come spend some time with me and rumba with Pumba.

With my sexy, shapely legs and lungs which can hit even the highest notes, sometimes I feel a bit like Tina Turner wearing a tri-colored hound jacket! On the perpetual hunt for a great walk in the woods or a roommate who can keep pace with my active lifestyle, I love meeting new people and will quickly welcome them into my world. A smaller framed hound-delight, I can easily work a busy crowd of people and pride myself in settling into virtually any type of environment. Come by soon and let me show you just how much of a super-star I really am!!
Volunteer Note: Glory is a super sweet gal who immediately transforms herself from a bouncy, bouncy, singing hound in her large open pen to a quiet, extremely calm and well mannered lady while out on walks. This smaller framed tri-colored delight can always be found sporting a huge smile and tail wag. Always eager to meet new people, Glory has what it takes to be everyone’s immediate best friend.

After the death of my person and losing the only home I had ever known, I was grief stricken. Upon arriving at CFC I was very fearful; there were so many new sights and smells but everyone was very loving and gentle with me. They were impressed that, even as frightened as I was, I never acted out or was aggressive in any way toward man or beast. That’s me alright, a very gentle, demure, and soft-natured girl. I avoid being picked up but don’t let that fool you into thinking that I don’t like affection. I do, but I prefer it on my terms. I’ll gladly trade you some soft head bumps for chinny scratches and gentle caresses down my back. My fur is plush and thick and I’ve heard it said that it’s difficult to resist running your fingers through it. And why should you resist? Such bonding is good for both of us I think. Other kitties tend to intimidate me and frankly I don’t see the need for feline companionship. My friends here think that I have the makings of a devoted and loyal companion, and I would love to assume that role once again. Why don’t you stop by the Scratching Post kitchen, say hello, and let me audition for the part?
8. Olive

Smart and Sassy!! Who doesn’t love and respect a girl who knows what she wants and is not afraid to ask for it? Olive is all of this and so much more!! This solid-framed, sleek-jacketed lady is pure joy to watch as she runs like the wind in one of our fenced-in areas! Paying no attention to the toys scattered about hoping to be activated, Olive is much more interested in being near her person and in particular getting much needed and yes, deserved belly rubs! This super sweet, sensitive lady will be at her best in a home with structure and steady routine headed up by humans with prior dog experience. She enjoys the company of other dogs and in fact, she will tell you her best friend here at the Sanctuary is another pointer, Polly who will oftentimes join her for a brisk walk through some of our wooded trails. Exploring the sights, sounds and smells of the woods is a favorite pasttime of Olive along with the reward of yummy snacks at the end of her walk. Olive is boldly smart and graced with a delightful personality. She is happiest when she is confident that her humans have everything under control and she need not worry or fret! Exercise should play a regular role in her daily routine. Structure, routine and a healthy heap of human love will bring out the very best of Olive. She’s hoping that soon you will come on by and ask for the ultimate relish, Olive!

I’m one of the black kitten cats, a crew of ebony sweethearts known as the “Inky Imps” for our playful, romping ways. I’m not as bold as my siblings and cousins and maybe that’s because I’m the smallest of the gang, the Lilliputian of the bunch. When you enter our room, they will all vie to be the first to greet you. While I may be more bashful and hang out on the periphery of the high jinks, I hope you’ll realize that I enjoy attention too. I’m sweet, perhaps just not in as much of an outgoing in-your-face way. Give me a little space and time and I will come sit on your lap. It’s just that with so many outgoing siblings and cousins I can easily be overlooked. Please don’t mistake a little bashfulness for aloofness. Stroke my sleek ebony fur and you’ll be rewarded with soft-eyed thanks. Having known so much love here at CFC, I guess it’s not a shock that we’re such a benevolent and kindly bunch, but still people marvel at what affectionate and warm-hearted kitties we are. Did you know that very often black dogs and cats are never adopted? That’s insane! We are deprived of caring homes and you of devoted and loving companions. Well, you can do your part to remedy that grim reality by taking me home with you, and maybe one of my siblings or cousins too? A gal can dream, can’t she? Come visit and at the very least I guarantee you the joy of being engulfed by my friendly feline family. You’ll wish that you had more hands with which to pet us all.

Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed! Polly just makes us grin from ear to ear as we look at how she has blossomed under our care! Arriving with major health issues (now resolved!) and feeling shy and overwhelmed, Polly is now taking full advantage of her new lease on life and having a blast!! A very friendly and loving lady, nothing pleases her more than to head out on one of our wooded trails with best doggy friend and twin (might I add!) Olive to explore, analyze new scents and grab some fresh air. She’s a real curiosity to watch as her walking style is a cross between a duck and a platypus with each paw carefully lifted into the air and then placed down. Feeling energized outdoors, once Polly is inside however, she’s perfectly content to calmly find a soft spot to curl up in and relax and enjoy some of her favorite stuffed toys which also double as pillows for her! A home pre-stocked with other dogs and even cats would likely help Polly ease into her new pet job. A super snuggly girl who loves belly rubs, yummy treats are always greatly appreciated and a person who will show her some patience as she continues to morph and grow into her new wonderful self will surely take her to that next level of a super star pet!

I’m a good-sized and gentle-natured galoot of a guy, very sedate and laid back with a face that radiates much wisdom and kindness. I don’t speak often but when I do, my voice is deep and resonant, appropriate for a gent of my intelligence and refinement. I’m blushing with these remarks but being modest isn’t going to get me adopted! Folks remark on how handsome I am, with my wide face, pink nose with its gray tip, stylish goatee, and enormous snowshoe feet being among the features that they find most charming. I’m fond of handing out (or is that heading out?) gentle head nudges and I delight in receiving chinny scratches in return. No doubt, I can grace a lap with the best of them and all I ask of you is the opportunity to do just that. Come visit and we’ll talk about a permanent situation for me as your companion and confidante.
