Gearharts’ staff is always growing. Everyone that works there is incredibly kind and loves what they do. The staff is like a huge family. The people there make you feel welcomed and appreciated as a customer.

Gearharts opened its doors on West Main Street in 2002. They moved their shop after 13 years in 2015 to Ridge McIntire, just down the road. For more than a decade they have been in business making and retailing chocolate for people all over the world! It’s hard to not love a business that has been making people happy with that much artisan chocolate for as many years as they have.

Along with their location in Charlottesville (now on Ridge McIntire Rd), they also have a retail store in Richmond, VA. With two locations, you always have chocolate close by!

Since their move to their new location, Gearharts now makes and sells fresh pastries made at the shop. They have options like cookies, tarts, cake, brownies, cheesecake, pain au chocolate, cupcakes and babka. Their pastries of course all include chocolate in their ingredients! The Chocolate Buttermilk Cake is the most amazing pastry they sell– it’s a must!

With their move to Ridge McIntire Rd, along with serving pastries, they have an excellent espresso bar. A favorite drink at Gearharts is the Il Bicerin, which has molten truffle on the bottom, espresso and steamed milk. They have hot chocolate as well, that is made with their own chocolate!

Using whiskey from Virginia Distillery Company in Lovingston, VA, Gearharts creates decadent truffles with dark chocolate ganache and hand rolled in Valrhona cocoa. It’s a great gift for someone who loves quality chocolate and loves getting their drink on!
