Moose’s by the Creek owners Melinda “Moose” Stargell and Amy Benson have been in Charlottesville their whole lives. They started Moose’s by the Creek as a way to give back to the community. What’s with the name? Melinda, aka “Moose,” picked up the nickname in high school playing softball and the name has stuck with her ever since! When you walk into Moose’s by the Creek, Amy or Moose are always there to greet you at the door, Amy’s Mom is at the register and her sister Beth and nephew Matthew are cheerfully helping out the patrons!

Walk in the door at Moose’s by the Creek and you will be invited to get your picture taken with a large pair of moose antlers! With over 30,000 moose photos to date, this place welcomes everyone as if they were family!

Charlotte, aka Sharlabea, is Amy’s Mom and she starts baking every morning around 3am to make all the home made desserts at Moose’s by the Creek! Desserts change from day to day, so be sure to ask your server what Mom has cooked up!

Moose’s By The Creek is host to frequent fundraisers, like Cruisin’ for a Cure coming this October! But it’s the customers at Moose’s By The Creek that truly make these events so successful! When West Virginia had terrible flooding, the customers at Moose’s by the Creek pitched in to buy over 1,600 pounds of dog food for animal shelters there! And at Christmas, Moose’s By The Creek regularly gets record donations for Mason’s Toy Box and Caring for Creatures!

The previous owner of Moose’s By The Creek (Dennis “K” Housdan) originally named the establishment Moores Creek Restaurant! When ownership switched hands and the name was changed, Dennis was happy to add to the decor by donating Boss K! This 1,800 pound bull moose was taken down by Dennis himself. Now Boss K is joined each morning by Dennis, Amy and Moose for a meal and a laugh! Most of the gear on the walls at Moose’s by the Creek has been donated by the patrons!

Chef George has been with Moose’s by the Creek since the very beginning! He has a few helpers to assist during brunch rushes on the weekends, but most of the work and recipes are done by George.

Amy is always making sure everyone that comes in is greeted, happy and full! She can often be seen chatting with the folks waiting outside and even giving them a biscuit while they wait! Why wouldn’t you want to hang out with this crew!!!
