Barry and Ellen Moss love great wine! Barry previously lived on a vineyard in Europe where he learned about winemaking, how to cultivate vines, how to make fine wine and how to match the right vines to the right soil. After hearing that Virginia was becoming an up-and-coming wine region, Barry and Ellen dedicated themselves to starting a vineyard in Virginia.

Moss Vineyards pursues the creation of wine as both an art and a passion, holding themselves to the highest standards. They offer five different wines: Viognier, Rosé, Cabernet Franc and two blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Their 2014 Architettura Meritage Blend and 2014 Vino Rosso are among the winning wines of the Governor’s Cup, both taking home a Silver medal!

Owner and architect Barry Moss designed and built everything you see at Moss Vineyards! He planted all 5,000 of the vineyard’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Viognier and Vermentino vines. A jack of all trades, Barry fills the roles of owner, groundskeeper and winemaker!

Moss Vineyards sits atop a beautiful mountain 1,000 feet above sea level at 38.3 degrees latitude. Napa Valley and Sonoma County lie on the same latitude. Altitude and exposure create the ideal setting for cultivating amazing grapes!

Barry’s passion for creating art is on display in the tasting room where you can view several of his paintings. Moss Vineyards also holds occasional “Wine and Design” painting sessions where you get a pre-sketched canvas, all of the supplies you need, three hours of guidance and a glass of Moss Vineyards wine!

The Moss Vineyards Pavilion accommodates up to 120 people in a relaxed, open air setting overlooking the vineyard and features a custom built wood fired pizza oven!

Moss Vineyards boasts the perfect picnic spot with its beautiful patio space. You can lounge at the picnic benches looking out at the vineyard and the mountains. When the weather turns hot, pull out the large umbrellas and relax in the shade!

The tasting room at Moss Vineyards is an intimate space which includes a bar, two small side rooms, a refrigerator and a kitchenette, along with two bathrooms. Here you can learn from Barry how the fabulous Moss Vineyards wine was created!

Barry is currently building a new wedding and event building that will accommodate up to 130 guests. The space will also feature an attached bridal suite, full bath and sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains! The new event space will be ready in late summer of 2017!
