Charlottesville City Councilor Kathleen Galvin Joined Jerry Miller On The I Love CVille Show!

by

Charlottesville City Councilor Kathleen Galvin joined us on The I Love CVille Show powered by Greenberry’s Coffee at Barracks Road and Dr. Scott Wagner of Scott Wagner Chiropractic and Sports Medicine.

Here are the topics we covered:

(1). I asked Kathy to put herself into perspective from a personal, family, professional and civic duty standpoint. Her answers to these questions were A+!

(2). I asked Kathy about the therapy/mediation session that all the Charlottesville City Councilors were apart of earlier this week. Why did the City Councilors need this therapy session? What was gained or accomplished from this therapy session? Was Kathy hesitant to truly speak her mind at this session, especially with the press covering the event?

(3). We discussed the events before and after August 12, 2017. I asked Kathy if the City of CVille was prepared or underprepared for A12? She was very honest with her response. Kathy was on the front lines during A12 at Friendship Court and then Market Street. She saw the senseless evil and destruction firsthand.

(4). I asked Kathy about what it’s like to work alongside Mayor Nikuyah J Walker, Councilor Heather Danforth Hill, Councilor Michael Signer and Councilor Wes Bellamy. She offered very honest and very direct perspective on her relationships with fellow council members.

(5). We discussed Dr. Bellamy’s recent goal to rename or rebrand Preston Avenue. I asked Kathy about her take on this subject. She offered honest perspective on this.

(6). We discussed the future of FIfeville. Many folks in CVille think Fifeville will be “swallowed” by the growth around it. Kathy offered tremendous insight on this.

(7). We talked about the New Hill Development Corporation and its plans for the $500,000 it received from the City of CVille for future projects in the Starr Hill Neighborhood.

(8). We talked about Coran Capshaw, Alan Taylor and Riverbend Development. Coran’s company is the primary development player in CVille. Why is this? Why is Coran doing more projects than the other developers? How does Kathy view Coran Capshaw?

(9). I asked Kathy if she will run for re-election in November. This would be her third term as a City Councilor. Be sure to watch her response to this question at the end of our interview.

(10). Kathy showcased even more of her talents when she sang an Irish ballad for us on-air! It was truly one of the best moments in our nearly 11-year history at I Love CVille. I encourage everyone to watch the final 5 minutes of this interview when Kathy showcases the voice of an angel. She almost had me in tears!

(11). We discussed Adam Healey and the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau with Kathy. What do Adam and the CACVB need to do to change the national conversation about Charlottesville, Virginia? Everyone understands that Charlottesville, Virginia needs a rebranding, but what is actually being done about this? Tourism expert André Xavier could be a strong resource for the City and Albemarle County. We should consider Andre’s thoughts.

(12). James Watson, a good friend of the show, asked Kathy this question: Is the City looking into attracting new major employers? Amazon distribution center, IKEA or anything of that size? In a couple years, there will be a need to re-use the Fashion Square Mall site, and a major employee should be recruited to do this.

(13). Matthew G. from Twitter asked Kathy this question today: What does Kathy hope the new comprehensive plan will do to promote affordable housing?

(14). I asked Kathy to explain why the West Main streetscape project is worth the $4,000,000 the City is putting into it.

(15). I asked Kathy about the future of Guadalajara and Lucky Seven on Market Street. The City of CVille now owns this land and these buildings.

Kathy truly hit a home run with this video. If you love CVille as much as I do, then this interview is must watch TV!
