Charlottesville City Market Turns 40!

The Charlottesville City Market is open for its 40^th season every Saturday this summer from 7am- Noon, on the corner of Water & South St. City Market offers fresh, local, and homemade goods from the greater Charlottesville region, including everything from fresh produce to grass fed meats to crafts. The market features over 100 different local vendors, such as popular vendors like Cville Coffee and Shenandoah Joe as well as lesser-known vendors like Hungry Hill Honey and Pantheon Pops.

Established in 1973, Charlottesville City Market is the largest outdoor market in the Charlottesville Area. The Market has been located in its current location, the city parking lot on Water St., since 1993. There has been talk about moving the market to a more permanent location with running water, bathrooms, seating, etc. in order to cater to more merchants, handicapped vendors, and automobile access; however, for now, the Water St. parking lot, a convenient location right off of the Downtown Mall, will remain the location.

Charlottesville City Market is also connected to “Farmers in the Park” and “Holiday City Market.” Farmers in the Park is a ‘growers only’ market, located in Meade Park on the corner of Chesapeake St. and Meade Avenue, that takes place Wednesdays from 3-7pm. May-September. The Holiday City Market takes place 8am- 1pm every Saturday from late November to late December, and has a large collection of unique gifts and decorations, all homemade or homegrown.

The Charlottesville City Market is a great showcase of Charlottesville’s personality and talented residents, as well as a great way to support the local economy.
