David Morgan Talks “Big Picture” And Whether He Wants To Open A Restaurant In Central Virginia!

by

Tavern & Grocery Executive Chef David Morgan likes “the idea of having the reins and running” his own restaurant one day, but, at the moment, he appreciates the support he’s receiving from restaurateurs Andy McClure, Patrick McClure and The Virginian Restaurant Company (Citizen Burger Bar, Citizen Burger Bar Carytown, Citizen Burger Bar Clarendon, The Virginian Restaurant, The Biltmore, Lost Saint and Citizen Bowl Shop).

Tavern & Grocery has established itself as one of the best restaurants in CVille under Morgan and Sous Chef David Jeck’s watch. Morgan and Jeck use the best ingredients and cook with love. I’ve said many times that their Crispy Chicken Sandwich is the best one I’ve ever had (Details Here: http://charlottesville.scoutology.com/is-this-the-best-chicken-sandwich-in-cville/).

Morgan, who is expecting a third child next month, and Jeck would be a formidable ownership tandem, especially in Zion Crossroads and Fluvanna County, two underserved restaurant markets.

I’m waiting for an approachable sports bar that serves quality food and tons of craft beers to open in Fluvanna County or Zion Crossroads. I can see Morgan and Jeck opening such a spot.

If you’d like to see Morgan and Jeck in action, visit them at T&G, or cast your vote in-person at the “Duel Chef Showdown” on Monday, June 4 at Tin Whistle Irish Pub.

Morgan and Jeck will face the formidable Melissa Close-Hart, executive chef at Junction, and Matty Hartwell, executive chef at The Local Restaurant and Catering, in the “Duel Chef Showdown” Final Four. Tickets are $55 for eight dishes. You vote the winning chef. Proceeds benefit the Empowered Players non-profit.
