Former Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris joined me on The I Love CVille Show powered by Greenberry’s Coffee at Barracks Road, Dr. Scott Wagner of Scott Wagner Chiropractic and Sports Medicine, four generation strong Intrastate Inc. and trusted real estate firm Roy Wheeler Realty Co.!
Here are the topics we discussed:
(1). What has Dave been up to since he last served as the Mayor of Charlottesville?
(2). Dave is one of the key players in the Crescent Halls development project. This project features a public/private partnership with the City of CVille and Riverbend Development, which is owned by Coran Capshaw, the most powerful man in Charlottesville. I asked Dave to shine the spotlight on this partnership. His insight was sooo valuable. I encourage everyone to watch this!
(3). We talked about affordable housing in Charlottesville. What can be done to create more affordable housing in Charlottesville? Councilors Kathleen Galvin and Heather Danforth Hill and Mayor Nikuyah J Walker say we have an affordable housing crisis in CVille. What are Dave’s thoughts on this topic?
(4). We talked about The Charlottesville Parking Wars that pit City Hall against Entrepreneur Mark Brown. Dave Norris was one of the key people who negotiated the peace treaty between City Hall and Mark Brown. Dave Norris offered insight from the negotiation table. It was AWESOME perspective!!
(5). We highlighted the 2019 Charlottesville City Council race. There are three seats open on Council. We both agreed that the June 11 Democratic primary would go a long way in determining the winners of this election. Dave analyzed candidates Lloyd Snook, Michael Payne and Sena Mcgill. He assessed the perceived strengths and weaknesses of each candidate and encouraged everyone to vote on June 11 and again in November.
(6). We talked about the future of Fifeville. Dave agreed that the Fifeville neighborhood and the Cherry Avenue corridor were at a crossroads of epic proportions. Will Fifeville evolve into the next “Belmont,” or will Fifeville maintain its authenticity and character? Please remember that Belmont used to be a workman class, blue collar neighborhood. Today, Belmont is home to $500,000+ houses, empty nesters and wealthy professionals who want to live close to The Charlottesville DowntownMall. Is this going to happen to Fifeville??
(7). We talked about our current City Council and whether they are prioritizing social justice over economic growth in CVille? We highlighted Keith O. Woodard’s failed $80,000,000 project on Water Street. Dave knows Keith and offered fantastic insight on this topic.
(8). We spotlighted the Democratic Party in general. Charlottesville is a one horse political town. Dave put this into perspective for us.
(9). We highlighted the night Mayor Walker told her political campaign committee that she would run as an independent instead of as a Democrat. Initially, Dave, who was one of Mayor Walker’s trusted advisors, tried to persuade Mayor Walker from running as an Independent. The insight he shared on this topic was AWESOME!!
