Hello, I’m Jerry Miller broadcasting from our offices in Downtown Charlottesville, Virginia.
I would like to reflect on what I witnessed first-hand on Saturday, August 12 during the violent Alt-Right protests and counter protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Our teams at I Love CVille and at The Miller Organization are headquartered two blocks away from the epicenter of the disheartening destruction at Emancipation Park.
This commentary is not about politics, protests or propagandas.
Instead, this commentary is about people, passion and praise.
The people of Charlottesville, Virginia are a passionate community. We love our town, and we love to sing its praises.
The people of Charlottesville, Virginia are a welcoming community. We are open-minded, we are kind-hearted and we are forward-thinking.
The people of Charlottesville, Virginia do not and will not reflect the hatred, violence and nastiness displayed by outsiders and showcased by the national media.
Hate does not define CVille.
Love defines CVille, and love trumps hate.
Now, we have three unfortunate deaths upon us, including the passing of a bright, beautiful and loving 32-year-old woman, who most certainly was killed in a domestic terrorist attack.
It’s time to rally together and galvanize our efforts to rebuild, recover and remember.
I will do everything in my power to help rebuild the Charlottesville, Virginia that I so deeply love. I will do everything in my power to help the families and businesses that represent the fabric of Charlottesville, Virginia recover their spirit. I will do everything in my power to help remember the names and legacies of the fallen.
My hope is we come together as a community and never forget Saturday, August 12. My hope is we always remember the violence and we use it as a springboard to better our community and to better ourselves.
We can do this.
If we can come out of Saturday, August 12 as a more open-minded and more tolerant community, then we can make Charlottesville, Virginia an even better place to live and raise our families.
I know we can do this, and I promise you that I will commit myself to this mission.
