Laura Van Camp’s Entrepreneurial Journey To Launch Jean Theory Was Absolutely Heroic!

Jerry Miller: “The first year – What did you go through? Give us the nitty gritty.”

LVC: “Oh, boy! Alright, here we go. So, I signed the lease on the store before I signed a lease on a place to live.”

JM: “Get out! So pimp!”

LVC: “I’m like you, when I decide to do something…”

JM: “You just go, thousand miles an hour.”

LVC: “Yep, let’s do it. I probably moved six times in the first year. On my way to the store, I would buy a can of beans, a can of corn, usually a tomato, and, if I was feeling generous with myself, an avocado. That was my lunch.”

LVC: “I had a couple of times I was between places to live. I just couldn’t find my right place to live, so I never signed a lease; I was kind of jumping around. I had an air mattress in the back of the store.”

LVC: “I was staying in this one place that was a basement apartment. It was kind of moldy, so I would sleep in the store, and then I would jog to the house, shower and come back to the store.”

LVC: “I don’t know. I’m sure I wasn’t allowed to sleep in the store.”

JM: “No one knew. Don’t ask, don’t tell.”

LVC: “Okay, right. It’s been ten years, right?”
