Lee Park & Court Square Park: The Future Home Of The Charlottesville City Market??

by

What if we move the Charlottesville City Market to Lee Park and Court Square Park??

While I still believe the best location for the City Market is at Ludwig Kuttner’s IX Art Park, I think we should also consider Lee Park and Court Square Park as options.

HERE’S WHY:

(1). If we move the Farmer’s Market to Lee Park and Court Square Park, this will help change the “perception” and “image” and “conversation” around Lee Park and Court Square Park. Both parks can host the City Market. Perhaps each park could have its own focus. For example, Lee Park could host host the “food & beverage” vendors while Court Square Park hosts the craft vendors.

(2). The Farmer’s Market brings people together. It’s a happy place. It’s a melting pot of people. Lets feature this “ecosystem” in Lee Park and Court Square Park. If we do, this strategy will bring all kinds of people together in a positive way at Lee Park and Court Square Park. THINK ABOUT THAT!!

(3). This strategy is a NATIONAL NEWS STORY waiting to happen. The rebranding and evolution of Lee Park and Court Square Park from A12 to a 2019 State-of-the-Art Farmer’s Market that could potentially run on a daily basis.

In closing, the City Market needs a new home. I think we all know this. A small asphalt parking lot off Water Street is not the future of our beloved City Market. Please don’t take my analysis as a negative or a slight on the City Market. I LOVE the City Market just like I Love CVille!!
