Located at 1427 University Avenue, right across the street from UVA, Littlejohn’s New York Delicatessen proudly served the Charlottesville community its signature sandwiches for over four decades, from 1976 to 2020. The original shop closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, reopening four years later under new management on April 15, 2024.

In a statement made on May 21, 2025, a managing member of Littlejohn’s wrote, “After much thought and consideration, we are writing to inform you that Littlejohn’s will be permanently closing its doors as of 5/21/25.”

Sad news, indeed.
