Entrepreneurs Robert Gray & Derek Rush, Co-Founders Of Conscious Capitalist Group Inc, Joined Jerry Miller On The I Love CVille Show!

Entrepreneurs Robert X Gray and Derek Rush, the co-founders of Conscious Capitalist Group, Inc., joined me live on The I Love CVille Show to spotlight their non-profit, which is focused on decreasing the poverty rate among youth through financial literacy, leadership, and entrepreneurship training.

We did a deep dive on The I Love CVille Show on many issues that are relevant to Charlottesville, Albemarle County and Central Virginia, including:

1. Systematic racism and how it has negatively impacted the African American community in Charlottesville, Albemarle County and Central Virginia.

2. The history of Vinegar Hill and how it has negatively impacted the African American community in Charlottesville.

In 1965, the entire Vinegar Hill neighborhood was destroyed as part of an urban renewal plan initiated in the 1950s. One church, thirty businesses and 158 families were displaced, almost all African American. Six hundred community members were moved into the Westhaven public housing complex. Families who had lived in stand-alone houses were forced into multi-family complexes.

The Vinegar Hill site remained vacant for well over a decade. Today, the Omni Hotel, Stapes Office Supply and the surrounding businesses comprise the former Vinegar Hill neighborhood.

3. The importance of prioritizing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) with children, especially within the African American community.

4. The importance of emphasizing entrepreneurship and valuing black-owned businesses within the Charlottesville and Central Virginia community.

5. The need to encourage cultural awareness across Charlottesville, Albemarle County and Central Virginia.

6. Robert and Derek are focused on partnering with stakeholders who have a vested interest in youth entrepreneurship. They outlined their plan for this mission.
