Sam Brunelle has officially been named an assistant coach with the Navy women’s basketball team.
Brunelle, a local high school hoops standout, who is one of the greatest basketball players in Virginia High School League history following a decorated career at William Monroe, was hired by Head Coach Tim Taylor.
Taylor has strong ties to Charlottesville and Central Virginia, where he served as an assistant coach with the University of Virginia women’s basketball team and head coach of the Orange County and Madison County boy’s basketball teams.
Brunelle played college basketball at Notre Dame before transferring to UVA. She then briefly played professionally in Europe before retiring due to injuries. Out of high school, Brunelle was a McDonald’s All-American and the No. 6 ranked player in her class.
