The Downtown Mall is the historic center of our city. Whether you’re a teenager, a college student or a family with small children, The Downtown Mall is where you spend your weekends.

The Mall just wouldn’t have that romantic feel, if it wasn’t for the musical talents of our community. Few cities have such a wide variety of street musicians.

2. Daedalus Used Bookshop

Daedalus is literally a labyrinth of books, hence the name. Go explore their three floors, and give an old book a new home.

3. The Doggies!

4. The Paramount Theater

The Paramount Theater is a beautiful part of Charlottesville’s history. Its classic decor brings you back to the time when movie palaces could be found anywhere in the US. Today, you can see movies, concerts, live theater productions and even streaming performances from around the world.

5. The Free Speech Wall

Downtown’s Free Speech Wall is a fun interactive part of our community. You can always find a funny joke, a work of art or just a pair of lovebird’s initials.

Alakazam is a great place to check out unique and retro toys. It’s great for kids and the kid at heart.

7. Friday’s After 5

Fridays After Five, presented by Bud Light, continues to be Charlottesville’s favorite live concert series. 2014 will be the 27th year of free live music and fun.Each week volunteers work the concessions on behalf of a variety of local non-profits who share in the proceeds, which raises tens of thousands of dollars to support their work in our community.

8. The Christmas Lighting

9. Timberlakes Drugstore and Soda Fountain

Take a step back in time at our old fashioned drug store and soda fountain. Timberlakes offer a full range of prescription services as well as home delivery. Their soda fountain has a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and old fashioned milkshakes.

10. The Albemarle Morris Men

The Albemarle Morris Men use as the basis of their dance style the dances collected in the village of Bledington, Gloucestershire. The costumes they wear are our own individual design but they reflect the tradition of the Morris dance attire. They have been dancing in and around Charlottesville Virginia since 1978.
