Scoutology’s Guide To Central Virginia Wine Country

The Charlottesville/Central Virginia Region offers many custom winery tour opportunities. Here’s a handy list of what each region has to offer. Please share this list with your friends and drink up, Central Virginia style!

1. Charlottesville Area

If you don’t want to travel too far from home (especially if you plan on drinking the wine), there are six wineries located in The Charlottesville Vicinity!

Wineries:
Jefferson Vineyards: which is located at the site of Thomas Jefferson’s own vineyard.
Trump Winery: lovely terraces, seasonal menu and plush accommodations!
Gabriele Rausse Winery: amazing and rustic tasting room with huge windows!
Blenheim Vineyards: really cool architecture, live music and $5 tastings.
First Colony Winery: which offers tours, tastings, live music and a charming country cottage atmosphere.
Virginia Wineworks: both local wines and lovely Burgundy wines that are bottled in France!

2. Afton/North Garden Area

Afton and North Garden wineries offer beautiful mountain views that are well worth the trip!

Wineries:
Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards: absolutely wonderful atmosphere with delectable farm to table treats!
Afton Mountain Vineyards: beautiful mountainside winery that’s open year round. (check them out in the fall!)
Cardinal Point Vineyard & Winery: tons of events all year!
Veritas Winery:amazing view under the stars, a resort with horseback riding, gourmet cheese plates and a dog-friendly atmosphere.
Flying Fox Vineyard: a cute, pet-friendly winery with a great picnic area.
Loving Cup Vineyard & Winery : certified organic and dog-friendly.

3. Barboursville Area

The Barboursville Area is steeped in history as well as some beautiful wineries.

Wineries:
Barboursville Vineyards: home of the famous Barboursville Ruins as well as a lovely inn and Italian cuisine.
Burnley Vineyards: a small winery with a wide range of unique wines like Spicy Rivanna.
Chestnut Oak Vineyard: small batch oak barrel aged wines. (Tastings by appointment only)
Horton Vineyards: lovely architecture, $5 tastings and plenty of fun events.
Keswick Vineyards: pet-friendly, great picnic spot and live music.
Reynard Florence Vineyard: great sweet wines. (Look out for the vineyard corgi)

4. Crozet Area

The picturesque foliage of Crozet pairs perfectly with the local vineyards. If you venture a little farther North, you’ll find the one of a kind Glass House Winery with greenhouse dining and live music!

Wineries:
King Family Vineyards: tastings, vineyard tours and polo.
Stinson Vineyards: dog-friendly, great variety of wines and a lovely patio.
Grace Estate Winery: rich red wines that are made with varietals from the on-site vineyard.
Pollak Vineyards: a lovely pond and a fireplace during the winter.
White Hall Vineyards: beautiful mountain views and $5 tastings!

5. Northern Area

If you’re up closer to Culpeper, there are five lovely wineries that you can tour all day!

Wineries:
Moss Vineyards: crisp green views of The Blue Ridge Mountains, pet and picnic friendly!
Early Mountain Vineyards: locally sourced cuisine, live music and Carpe Donuts!
Prince Michel Vineyard & Winery: close to Charlotteville, Richmond and DC (they also hold brunch once a month).
Stone Mountain Vineyards: high elevation offers breathtaking views!
Kilaurwen Winery: $5 tastings in a warm and cozy atmosphere.

6. Southern Area

Lovingston, VA has an undeniable charm and three wineries to choose from!

Wineries:
DelFosse Vineyards and Winery: frequently hosts wine dinners and French crepe days!
Democracy Vineyards: delightful live music and one acre dedicated to each varietal!
Lovingston Winery: flavorful small production wines and a friendly crew of vineyard dogs!
