Danny Brown is known for his individuality, being described by MTV as “one of rap’s most unique figures in recent memory.” His 2011 album XXX, released for free online, received critical acclaim, earning him such accolades as Spin’s #1 hip hop album of the year and Metro Times’s “Artist of the Year”. He’ll be bringing his high-energy, often explicit rhymes to the Jefferson this Friday.
2. Tycho, April 22, The Jefferson Theater

For nearly a decade, Tycho has been known as the musical alias of Scott Hansen, but with the release of Awake – his second LP for Ghostly International – the solo project has evolved into a three-piece band. The revamped trio, known for their ambient downtempo grooves, will take the Jefferson Theater stage on April 22.
3. Avers, April 26, The Southern

Later this month, Avers will bring their brand of psychedelic brand to Charlottesville. Hailing from RVA, this 5-piece band made waves with their debut album, Empty Light. But wait, it gets better: Black Girls, another notable Richmond band, will open up for Avers. Catch them on the 26th.
4. Nickel Creek, April 26, nTelos Wireless Pavilion

If rock ‘n’ roll isn’t quite your thing, maybe you’ll enjoy the soothing acoustic sounds of Nickel Creek. Originally formed in 1989, Nickel Creek have had platinum records and won Grammy awards, and now you’ll have a chance to see them on stage at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on Saturday, April 26.
5. Beats Antique, April 30, The Jefferson Theater

Electronic/World fusion dance trio Beats Antique brings you their new album and multi-media touring show A Thousand Faces, a journey beyond the sonic realm that’s part odyssey, part genre-warping rock opera. Close out April with a bang!
