1. The Alley Light
108 2nd st. SW, Charlottesville, Virginia

The Alley Light is a new lounge with an air of mystique to it. The dim lighting and classic decor give it the feeling of a speakeasy. They serve wonderful cocktails and French food.
2. Maharaja
139 Zan Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901-2858

Maharaja’s Facebook says they’ll make you feel like a king, and with their elegant decor and fancy dinnerware, I kind of did (well a queen, anyway). Their rice specialties are amazing and can be made in varying degrees of spice.
3. Holy Cow

We’ve covered Holy Cow before in our vegan article, but in case you missed it. Holy Cow recently opened up on The Downtown Mall with rave reviews. The prices are great and the vegan hot dogs are a hit!

Royal Indian has reopened at it’s new location on Emmet. This is the place to go for naan. They have an amazing variety!
5. El Tepeyac
380 Greenbrier Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901

As a Californian, I missed the tamales I grew up with. EL Tepeyac really hit the spot. Their authentic Mexican and Latin American food is definitely worth a try.
6. Shadwells
1791 Richmond Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911

Shadwell’s is a beautiful place for steak and seafood lovers to come together. The salmon with lime ginger sauce is amazing.
7. Basil

Basil is an absolutely stunning Mediterranean restaurant with excellent dessert. I hope to try their brunch someday soon!
8. Tastings Of Charlottesville
502 E. Market Street, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902

Tastings offers excellent high end food, but if you haven’t quite saved up enough for dinner, they also serve a fantastic lunch!
