Anja wanted a great way to combine the life she had growing up in Europe and the life she has now with her family. She loved how big and loud New Orleans culture was. She found that when you have a culinary melting pot of several cultures, you get approachable and unforgettable food.
2. Everyone In The Mural At FIG Is A Member Of Anja’s Family

When asked about the mural, Anja will gladly tell you about the symbols surrounding each person. Everyone, right down to the family pets, is included. Her late grandfather is depicted as part tree while he cradles a flower with his wife to symbolize his love of gardening.
3. Anja And Her Family Eat Drink And Breathe Food

The restaurant is their whole life. When Anja buys something nice, it’s for her restaurant. She and her family are there 24/7.
4. There Are No Employees

Anja does not consider anyone at her restaurant an employee. To her, they are all coworkers. “We work together,” she says, “They work ‘with’ not ‘for’ me.”
5. Her Parents Are Her “Pepper & Salt”

“If I didn’t have my parents, I wouldn’t have anything.” Anja says her parents are her biggest support.
6. Quality Is Of The Utmost Importance To Her

Anja explains that she would never serve something she doesn’t absolutely love. If she wouldn’t eat it, she won’t serve it.
7. Anja Attributes Her Success To The City Market

“The Farmer’s Market is the true beginning of our small business,” she explains.

To Anja, it’s not “giving back to the community” because the community continues to support her and her business. Community is a mutual thing. That’s how it goes.
