by

Charlottesville City Council candidate Michael Payne joined us live on-air on The I Love CVille Show powered by Greenberry’s Coffee at Barracks Road, the talented Dr. Scott Wagner of Scott Wagner Chiropractic and Sports Medicine, the trusted real estate firm, Roy Wheeler Realty Co., and Intrastate Inc., truly a home’s best friend!

Here are some of the topics we discussed:

(1). Who is Michael Payne the person? What are his hobbies, interests and passions? What does he like and dislike about Charlottesville, Virginia?

(2). Why would Michael Payne make the right choice as a Charlottesville City Councilor?

(3). Why is the Charlottesville Police Department experiencing tremendous turnover and attrition with its police officers? What did Michael think about Sheriff J E Chip Harding’s televised comments about using an independent third party to audit the CPD and CPD Chief RaShall M. Brackney?

(4). What does Michael think about the perceived dysfunction on Charlottesville City Council, and how we got to this point?

(5). How should Charlottesville, Virginia handle August 12, 2017 moving forward? Michael was on the front lines during A12. This topic caused Michael to be emotional on the show. I appreciated his willingness to show emotion live on-air.

(6). What are Michael’s thoughts about Dr. Wes Bellamy’s recent goal to rename or rebrand Preston Avenue. If we rebrand Preston Avenue, is the next step to remove Thomas Jefferson from the University of Virginia? We had an insightful conversation about this topic.

(7). We discussed affordable housing in Charlottesville at length with Michael, who is an affordable housing expert. Both Mayor Nikuyah J Walker and Councilor Heather Danforth Hill have said that the City is an affordable housing crisis. Michael put this into perspective for us.

(8). We discussed Coran Capshaw, Alan Taylor and Riverbend Development. Coran’s company is the primary development player in CVille. Why is this? Why is Coran doing more projects than the other developers? What does Michael think about Coran’s plans for Crescent Halls?

(9). We discussed Adam Healey, the interim executive director of the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the regional and national advertising campaigns that are expected to rebrand Charlottesville.

(10). What does Michael hope the new comprehensive plan will do to promote affordable housing?

(11). What is the value of the West Main streetscape project? Is it worth the tens of millions of dollars the City is putting into it?

(12). Why is Dewberry Capital Corporation floundering with its development of The Landmark Hotel on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall?? What can be done to expedite this and remove this hideous eye-sore from our skyline??

(13). I asked Michael about Keith O. Woodard’s efforts to build an $80,000,000 Water Street development. Due to issues with City Council, Keith Woodard chose to walk away from years of investment and roughly $1,200,000 of his own money because of difficulties in working with City Council. What does Michael think about this?

(14). I asked Michael if he thinks our current City Council is prioritizing social justice over economic growth in Charlottesville, Virginia.

(15). I asked Michael about the tension between the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Richard Fitz Randolph, an Albemarle County Supervisor, said on the record that he is concerned that the City of CVille does not keep its promises when dealing with Albemarle County. Michael offered his thoughts on this topic.

(16). I asked Michael what can be done to make The Downtown Mall a more inviting place for people of all races and income levels.

(17). If you would like to get a better feel for Michael Payne and whether he would make a strong candidate or Charlottesville City Council, I encourage you to watch this interview in totality.
