To call Roger L. Voisinet a “renaissance man” might, actually, be undervaluing his robust skillset.
Roger, who you may know as the former Head Coach of the University of Virginia Ice Hockey team, is also a real estate broker, real estate investor, a solar power entrepreneur and businessman and one of the driving forces behind developing a much needed ice hockey rink on Grounds at UVa to accommodate the men’s and women’s teams, which are both booming with player turnout and fan interest.
Roger is a proud Charlottesville enthusiasts, and, basically, a CVille historian as well. In this I Love CVille Spotlight, Roger offers his perspective on the following:
(1). The evolution of the Charlottesville Downtown Mall and the major players behind its birth, including Lee Danielson, Ludwig Kuttner, Gabe Silverman, Allan Cadgene, Oliver Kuttner, Mitch Van Yahres and many more visionaries who helped develop The Mall as we know it today.
(2). Roger analyzes what went wrong with the The Landmark Hotel, including Dewberry Capital Corporation’s failure to act on developing the property. He also proposes the idea of leveraging performance bonds to drive action with John Dewberry, who Bloomberg called “The Emperor of Empty Lots.”
(3). Roger offers perspective into the difficulties of working with current Charlottesville City Council and other aspects of Charlottesville government, including unheard insight into Keith O. Woodard’s recently kiboshed $80 million dollar Water Street Development.
(4). Roger discusses the Eleven:30 Condominiums at East High Street, Charlottesville’s newest small condominium project featuring commercial and residential condos all within walking distance of The CVille Downtown Mall and the newly emerging “River District” that is blossoming down High Street, around Free Bridge and at the base of Pantops Mountain.
(5). Roger offers insight into the rise-and-fall of the Main Street Arena and how he is helping to bring a state-of-the-art ice hockey epicenter to UVa Grounds.
(6). Roger remembers what it was like to live, work and play around The Charlottesville Downtown Mall while it was still super sketchy and underdeveloped.
(7). Roger recounts his journey as a solar power entrepreneur and businessman, who launched his business in Charlottesville.
