Less than two hours away from Richmond, a new music festival is launching this year. The Lockn’ Festival will be bringing Grace Potter, Punch Brothers, The Black Crowes, Gov’t Mule, The String Cheese Incident and more to the hills of the Shenandoah Valley.

Roughly 100 miles west of Richmond, Va., a small town named Arrington will be transformed when tens of thousands music fans descend for the Lockn’ Festival from September 5 to September 8.
This is the first year for the Lockn’ Festival and it has seen a lot of changes since their announcement of the new event last fall, most importantly a last minute name change which was released over the weekend shortening the previous name of Interlocken Music Festival.

This weekend they also announced the addition of Grace Potter to their line up while very discreetly removing Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

This festival will take place on Oak Ridge Farms, which is a 4,800-acre private estate. There will be two main stages, which will feature full sets (roughly two hours) and run without breaks between performers. This will ensure the music on the two main stages will be continuous or “interlocked” the entire weekend.

With acts like Grace Potter, Punch Brothers, The Black Crowes, Gov’t Mule, The String Cheese Incident and more, it’s set to be a long weekend with great music, food and vendors.

MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE A CAMPING PASS IF YOU ARE GOING. Whether you are car camping (in your tent by your car) or tent camping on site you need a pass! Unlike most festivals this is not included in your ticket cost, so don’t get stranded when you arrive. In addition to on-site camping options, Lockn’ offers packages at hotels, B&Bs and neighboring ski resorts.

The area is known for their local wineries (lovingstonwinery.com; www.mountaincovevineyards.com) and craft breweries (www.bluemountainbarrel.com), including two new hard cider distilleries (www.boldrock.com). These would be great stops on your way there or on your way home from the event and many are having specials and celebrations for the Lockn’ Festival.

Lockn’ is even donating a portion of all ticket sales back to WNRN, just use the promo code “WNRN” to show your support when buying your ticket.

Ticket purchases, artist schedules and more information can be found on the Lockn’ website (www.locknfestival.com).
